ZMRR01 - Liuwa Plains MigrationDeze safari met als hoogtepunten Chobe National Park in Botswana én de Wildebeest migratie in Liua Plains is een echte 'untamed Africa experience'! Soms heeft de safari het karakter van een expeditie. De weg naar Liuwa plains over de Mango tree road is een ware belevenis. De hele weg zul je de vriendelijke bevolking naar je zien zwaaien terwijl je niet harder dan 15 of 20 km/h kunt rijden. Liuwa Plains National Park ligt in het uiterste Westen van Zambia. In November verzamelen zich hier duizenden wildebeesten via een migratie uit Angola om hier hun jongen geboren te laten worden. De kleine Serengeti is de bijnaam. Op deze reis kun je deze unieke momenten beleven! De vlaktes in Liuwa zijn bevolkt door enorme hoeveelheden wildebeesten, buffels, zebra's, antilopen en vooral ook hyena's. Liuwa Plains Migration, is een unieke (gedeeltelijke) campingsafari in een kleine groep en speciaal bedoeld voor iedereen die het beste uit Zambia (en een klein stukje van Botswana) wil halen voor een betaalbare prijs zonder te hoeven inleveren op de kwaliteit van de safari - het is kamperen, maar dan in stijl - zelfs alle maaltijden worden je vanuit een geweldige buskeuken of het open vuur geserveerd! Tijdens deze safari verblijf je afwisselend in lodges of kampeer je in 2-persoons 'rooftop tenten' in een comfortabel mobiele 'bushcamp'. De safari brengt je naar de meest afgelegen gebieden van Zuidelijk Afrika!

Dag tot dag reisprogramma( SC= Self Catering, O= Ontbijt, L= Lunch, D= Diner, A= Activiteiten )
Dag 01 - Livingstone , Zambezi Waterfront *** ( L|D )You will fly from O.R.Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg (South Africa) with British Airways to Livingstone (Zambia). Depart 11:20 and arrive 12:55. Andre van Vuuren, Director of Explore Africa and registered safari guide, will meet you at the airport in Livingstone. Lunch at Zambezi Waterfront before going on a scenic visit to the Victoria Falls. The Falls are approximately 1690m wide and very in height from 62m (Devil’s Cataract) to 109m (Eastern Cataract). In comparison the Niagra Falls are 968m wide and 54m high. Various activities e.g. Bungi jumping, flight of Angels or rafting, click here for a complete overwiew of the activities. You will spend the night in the Riverside Rooms at the Zambezi Waterfront in Livingstone on Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis. Dag 02 - Livingstone , Zambezi Waterfront *** ( O|D|A )The day will be at leisure and you will have the opportunity to take part in some of the numerous activities on offer. White River Rafting, jet boating, helicopter/ micro-light flights over the falls, guided game-walks, elephant back safaris etc. are available at the Falls. Late afternoon everybody will go on a two hour sunset boat cruise (including dinner) on the Upper Zambezi above the Victoria Falls.
Dag 03-04 - Kasane/Chobe National Park , Chobe Safari Lodge *** ( O|D|A )The group depart with luxury air-conditioned 4X4 Safari vehicles via the Ferry (Pontoon Boat) at Kazungula where the four countries (Zambia, Botswana, Zimbabwe and Namibia) meet, for Kasane in Botswana. You will spend 2 nights in luxury in the Safari Rooms at the Chobe Safari Lodge on Dinner, Bed & Breakfast basis. The group will spend the next day in the northern part of the Chobe National Park. (the morning on a game drive and a three hour sunset boat cruise in the afternoon). The Chobe is proud and very famous for it’s abundance of elephants – the highest concentration to be found anywhere in Africa. Chobe is also famous for it’s huge herds of buffalo, for it’s rich bird life and, not least for it’s boat cruises and exquisite sunsets – an Africa experience not to be missed! Dag 05 - Mongu/Western Zambia , Kabula Tiger Lodge Campsite ( O|L|D|A )After a hearty breakfast the group will travel via the Ngoma border post to Katima Mulilo in Namibia. From here the road will take you through the Wenela border post with Zambia to Kabula Tiger Lodge on the western bank of the Zambezi River in Barotse where you will spend your first night in the comfort of your mobile safari camp. A sunset cruise on the Zambezi is a magnificent experience along with the sounds of the wild, which only Africa can provide. That night around the campfire the group will be entertained with stories about the Royal Barotse Establishment, their King or Litunga as he is called and the interesting Lozi culture. Amoungst the tales you will hear about the Kuomboka Ceremony, an annual ceremony of the Barotse people which normally takes place at the end of March. Dag 06 - Barotse Flood Plains , Bush camping ( )Today the group has a long hard day of driving through thick sand and lots of bush - real 4x4 territory! You will enter the Barotse Flood Plains late afternoon and will spend the night in the comfort of your mobile safari camp somewhere in the wild in the middle of Barotse Land. Africa untamed and under the stars!
Dag 07-09 - Liuwa Plains , Matamanene Camp ** ( O|L|D|A )The group dirves up to Kalabo where you will cross the Lualinga River by hand driven pontoon and head into Liuwa Plains - one of Africa’s last hidden secrets where you will spend the next 3 nights in Matamanene Camp (full board). Matamanene, a basic but comfortable camp, is the head quarters of African Parks Conservation inside the Liuwa Plains National Park and is situated in a big tree island on the Southern Plains in one of the most densely populated game areas. Explore Africa Adventures (= your group) will have the exclusive use of the Camp during your stay. The camp consists of 4 safari tents with en-suite bathrooms (shower, flush toilet and paraffin geyser for hot water). There are two single beds per tent. There is also a large shed which has 3 rooms, 2 with double beds and the other with single beds. The shed is attached to the main dining area and kitchen and opposite the boma area where quests will spend their evenings around the campfire. They will be entertained with African stories and traditional dancing and musical performances. This is serious, un-commercialized Africa and a once in a lifetime experience! Minimum driving. Explore Liuwa Plains and be part of the migration. Matamanene Camp is 2-3 hours' drive from the tiny outpost-town of Kalabo, where there is a small airfield, and a mission station with a hospital. Liuwa Plain National Park is situated in the Upper Zambezi flood plains of Western Zambia, it is here that the second largest migration of wildebeest (over 33.000) in Africa takes place. In November, with the onset of the rains, the massive herds of blue wildebeest arrive from Angola, traversing the plains in their thousands, very often mingling with zebra along the way or gathering around water holes and pans. Other unusual antelope found include oribi, red lechwe, steinbuck, duiker, tsessebe and roan. The Jackal, serval, wildcat, wild dog as well as lion and hyena are the predators of the area. Many birds migrate here during the rains and massive flocks of birds can be seen as they migrate south. Some of the more notables are the White Bellied Bustards, Secretary birds, Red Billed and Hottentot Teals, Crowned and Wattled Cranes, Long Tailed Whydah, Sooty Chat, Yellow Throated Longclaw, large flocks of Black Winged Pratincoles around the pans, Fish Eagle, Tawny Eagle, Marshall Eagle, Woodland Kingfisher, Pink Throated Longclaw. The plains are dotted with woodlands which also make for excellent birding. The park covers an area of 3,600km2 of vast wooded islands, and the plain from which the park takes its name is 70km long and 30 km wide. The park plays a vital role in the Zambezi's catchment area and is flooded from late December to June each year. This intricate ecosystem supports an abundance of wildlife! Dag 10 - Senanga , Senanga fishing safaris Campsite ( O|L|D )The group travels via Mongo to Senanga where you will spend the night at Senanga fishing safaris in the comfort of your mobile safari camp. Today will be another experience of the true Africa. You will do two ferry crossing over the mighty Zambezi and you will see that there is nothing plastic about Barotse Land and that this is still one of the last outposts where one can experience pure Africa!
Dag 11 - Mongu/Western Zambia , Kabula Tiger Lodge Campsite ( O|L|D )Early morning the group leaves for Kabula Tiger Lodge where you will spend the night in the comfort of your mobile safari camp. Tiger fishing is the main activity at Kabula and quests interested will arrive early enough to try their hand at it. (Chalet accommodation will also be available at additional cost.). Dag 12 - Livingstone , The Falls Hotel ( O|D )Leave early morning departure via the new bridge crossing the Zambezi at Sesheke for Livingstone. You will head straight for the The Falls Hotel in Livingstone. A stone’s throw away from the mighty Victoria Falls, The Falls Hotel overlooks the smooth waters just before it plunges over the legendary waterfall creating a permanent water spray. This is where you will spend the final night of your Safari.
Dag 13 - Depart Livingstone , N.a. ( )This is the end of your Safari and you will fly from Livingstone on a British Airways flight (BA 6292) back to Johannesburg. Departure time 13h20 and arrival 15h05. We zijn benieuwd naar je belevenissen en horen graag van je reiservaringen via de reisblog (gastenboek) op onze website.
